About Me

Mark Hiesterman’s journey as a General Surgeon is a testament to his profound commitment to the healthcare industry, demonstrating adaptability in the face of challenges and a relentless pursuit of knowledge and community service. Raised in Deer Lodge, Montana, his path in the medical field is marked by substantial contributions to the realm of surgery, underpinned by his unique upbringing and diverse interests. His early life in Deer Lodge, a quaint mountain town, laid the foundation for his medical aspirations. Growing up in a family deeply involved in medical services, with relatives in dentistry and surgery, he was instilled with a strong sense of healthcare values and a drive to serve others. His educational journey began at the University of Montana, laying the groundwork for his future in medicine. He then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he showcased his dedication and broad interests by graduating in 2000 with majors in Biology, Chemistry, and Classical Studies. His medical studies at Kansas City University of Medicine were marked by personal challenges, including the tragic loss of his mother. Despite this, he persevered, graduating in 2005 with a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. His professional foundation was established through an intensive internship and residency at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, Michigan.

His expertise in General Surgery was augmented by experiences in Urology, Neurosurgery, and other disciplines, particularly during his tenure in a resource-limited hospital on the Pacific island of Saipan. His career also embraced teaching, with roles in Washington and volunteer work in Guatemala, illustrating his dedication to sharing knowledge and skills. Apart from his medical duties, Mark remains closely connected to his community. He engages in public speaking, sharing insights on surgical topics and extending support to local animal shelters. His involvement demonstrates a commitment to transparency and community service. His passion for the natural world sparked in the mountains of Montana, extends into hobbies like hiking, scuba diving, photography, and skiing. These activities reflect his curiosity, love for learning, and appreciation for the world’s beauty, offering a balance to his demanding professional life.
